Six Tips for Installing Artificial Grass in the Winter

If you’ve decided to invest in artificial grass then you’ll probably be giving some thought as to how you’re going to carry this out. It doesn’t have to be complicated or overly difficult, but it helps if you have some steps to follow so the whole operation goes as smoothly as possible. You don’t have to install it yourself; we can do that for you, but either way, winter is a much better time of year to install it.

Here are six top tips for you to consider

1: Yes, it’s winter, but you’ll find that despite the weather conditions at this time of year, it’s a really good time to lay artificial grass. If the temperature is around 10c the ground will be more malleable and easier to deal with. Winter is less hectic as well so if you do find you’re having problems, you can always get in touch with us here and we can come out and help. It’s generally less hectic than the summer months, so work can be carried out much quicker.

2: Your garden is far less active in winter which means no overhanging shrubs and plants and access to the lawn in general is much easier. Once it’s laid, you or your family won’t be dragging in grass and mud, although your garden will be much more accessible during the winter months with artificial grass.

3: Just make sure it’s not waterlogged or frozen as this could impact on how well the grass will be laid.

4: You’ll want to secure the edges of your artificial grass so make sure you use a wet fix adhesive. This will rapidly set even in freezing conditions, so the weather is in no way a hindrance in your artificial grass installation, securing it nicely to the surface of your garden.

5: Don’t let the joining tape you use to secure the rest of your artificial grass get wet. When you work on securing your joins, you’ll apply joining tape and the grass surface will be bonded to the tape itself. Damp tape will have an impact on the adhesive, and this could result in it being insecure and the artificial grass may be able to move when it shouldn’t.

6: The garden will be out of bounds for a couple of days while the work is carried out and the artificial grass surface has time to settle. This is why it’s ideal to have it done during the winter months because it won’t see as much foot traffic. Ideally, it would be a good idea to let the artificial turf unroll for a couple of days before you lay it.
