You can personalise your garden so it’s unique to you and unlike anyone else’s, and we’re here to help you do that.

A well-designed garden is a worthwhile investment in your property

A garden transformation doesn’t just make you happy and create a peaceful and fun environment for your family (although that is good), it can also increase the value of your home. In which case if you are thinking selling in the future, you could make a tidy profit.

Use professionals for garden makeovers which include decking, fencing or patios

When thinking about what you’re going to add to your garden to make it your own special personalised area, make sure you use professionals. Laying decking, paving and patios is a specialist area, and although you could try doing it yourself, if you’re not confident and you’ve not done it before, leave it to the professionals! This also applies to fencing installation because this is an area needs a good eye for detail and someone with plenty of experience. It will pay back in the end so it’s worth the investment.

Draw a simple sketch of how you want your garden to look

What do you want in it? A patio, or do you just want a simple lawn at the centre of your garden? Think about budget because if you make sure you know how much you can afford to spend; you won’t go over.

Privacy, views and neighbours

Think about what kind of views you have, especially if you’re thinking of raised decking which will be wasted slightly if you’re garden looks out on to somebody’s garden shed. Also consider your privacy, how much do you need, or how little. You don’t have to turn your garden into a fortress, but you might not want the neighbours prying eyes looking in on you, so factor this into your plans. Think about where to place garden furniture, how high the fencing or hedges need to be.

Cost, materials and time

If you have your heart set on a patio, consider the materials, they all have their own benefits and advantages, whether you go with stone or concrete, but think about the cost and what you can afford so you’re not disappointed. Same for your garden decking – do you want timber or composite? Timber will cost more in terms of time and money, it takes a lot of maintenance and treatment, while composite may not be as traditional but easier to care for.

Think about the details, such as where you’re going to put your patio or decking

You need to consider drainage; how close your patio is to your neighbours’ property – is it to the point of being slightly intrusive? Are there any other potential issues to consider?

Emergency funds and installation costs

Allow something in your budget for emergencies, such as unexpected costs which could come from anywhere and also think about how much it will cost to hire someone to install your decking, patio, fencing and allocate enough funds for this too.
